As part of Governor Whitmer's stay safe stay home order, no motorized boats are allowed on Michigan waters. Michigan DNR officials have some additional points to clarify. Canoes, paddle or row boats are still allowed and you can still go fishing.

"We do have boating access sites that are still open, without the amenities, meaning the restrooms and stuff there aren't working, people are asking if they can go fishing, yes they can go fishing but not if you're using motorized boats," said John Pepin from the Michigan DNR.

The stay safe stay home order continues for the remainder of April. At that time it will be re-evaluated.

Message shared from The Estates provided by BOD:
As you know the Great Lakes are experiencing record high levels.  The abnormally high water levels combined with storms is causing increased erosion throughout the Great Lakes Basin. With water on three sides, Crosswinds is experiencing the impact of the higher water and erosion.

Starting last year, Crosswinds Estates attempted to mitigate the development of sinkholes along the channel sidewalk by filling in the sinkholes as they developed.  As the effect of erosion increased the ability to remediate with fill became ineffective and the area was eventually cordoned off due to ground instability and overall safety concerns.

We maintain a good relationship with the Corps of Engineers (Corps) who have inspected the sinkholes, washout that has started to undermine the sidewalk and a section of railing along the beach side of the sidewalk that has corroded to the point of being detached.  The Corps had been planning on taking steps to remediate the issues impacting Crosswinds during the same timeframe they had scheduled to dredge the channel this spring.  With COVID-19 the Corps resources are being diverted and their ability to do work in Ludington is now questionable.  We remain hopeful that as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides the Corps will be able to address the issues impacting Crosswinds.

If you are enjoying the waterfront at Crosswinds please do the following:
Do not venture into any barricaded areas.
Refrain from entering the area at the north end of the beach that is also experiencing erosion.
When walking on any grassy areas near the channel water be careful where you step since additional sinkholes may form at any time.
If you walk out on the south pier, please be advised that the concrete surface in the first few sections of the pier has missing concrete.
If you have additional concerns regarding erosion facing Crosswinds Estates please contact Larry Zimmerman, Vice President Crosswinds Estates Board of Directors, lzman3@comcast.net, who is coordinating our erosion remediation efforts.

Following are some information updates from our Marina.

 1. We have a 8x8 swim platform that is for maintenance in the marina. It has a small electric motor for propulsion. It is in the water and at present is in slip 19. Feel free to use as required.
 2. The water is 18 inches+/- higher over last year. This increase has many of the owner installed rub rails in the water. The rails are the owners responsibility. Going into winter  we can't have anything in the water. The ice will catch the boards and cause damage to the finger piers. Please remove this to at least 6 inches above the water for safety due to the rise and fall of the water levels.  Any boards not removed by Sept. 1st  will be contracted out and you will be sent the bill for the work. If you would like help with removal, contact any of the board members or Gary.
 3. We have been ask by Lakeside marina to avoid parking in their parking lot. They have limited space and we have more than enough to accommodate all our needs. Please inform any of your lease holders also
 4. Fish cleaning. As you may know the City of Ludington will no longer pump out the fish cleaning holding tank. We have a contract with a farmer that will pump out our tank when it is full. The cost is $300/time. We just need to call him when it needs pimping. When the grinder is running there is water running into the holding tank. So while cleaning fish, only run the grinder when needed. Don't let the grinder run when there are no carcases to grind. Also start the grinder prior to placing the carcasses into it.
 5. Leasing. If you have leased your slip this year make sure the boat owner has a copy of their insurance in the office, a copy of the Marina rules, your key to the bath house and dumpster.
Thanks for your co-operation. Have a safe summer
